Bring It Home Rental Assistance Program
The Bring it Home Rental Assistance Program, also referred to as “Bring It Home”, is a new program created to provide rental assistance for low-income families across Minnesota.
The program helps low-income households pay the rent on private, market-rate rental units. The renter finds a unit (within certain requirements); the participant pays 30-40% of their household’s adjusted monthly income; the HRA pays the remaining portion of the rent directly to the landlord.
Northwest Minnesota Multi-County Housing and Redevelopment Authority will be accepting applications for Bring It Home (BIH) Rental Assistance Program online.
Important Notes:
There are no fees associated with applying for BIH. Any website requesting a fee to apply is not legitimate and not related to the housing authority.
Applications for BIH will be accepted ONLINE ONLY on our website.
Applicants will be required to provide an email address in order to apply.
Northwest Minnesota Multi-County HRA will accept one application per household.
Applicants that are on other program waiting lists with NW MN Multi-County HRA must apply for the BIH Program waiting list separately.
Applicants requesting a reasonable accommodation must submit their request in writing to the HRA to be considered.
The BIH Program is not portable. In other words, BIH Rental Assistance cannot be transferred to another housing authority for continued assistance.
To be eligible for this program, applicants must:
Be a Minnesota resident
Have an annual income of up to 50% of the area median income, adjusted for family size
Be a household that is paying more than 30% of the household’s income on rent or is unhoused
Be a household that is not currently receiving federal tenant-based or project-based assistance under Section 8 of the United States Housing Act of 1937, as amended
Priority for rental assistance must be given to:
Households with children 18 years of age and under
Household annual incomes of up to 30% of area median income
Other priority populations identified by the Program Administrator
Income Limits
All affordable housing programs qualify recipients based on their income from income limits that are set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Along with income, family size is taken into consideration as well because of a high cost of living providing for a large family.
We encourage everyone to apply to determine eligibility, even if you feel you may not qualify.
Our Service Area
Northwest Minnesota Multi-County HRA’s service area is located in Northwest Minnesota, providing assistance in eight counties. The counties served are Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk*, Red Lake, and Roseau.
