Our office has two different program that deal with rent
assistance.
- Section 8 Housing Choice
Voucher
If you are looking to choose your own housing or get assistance in
your current residence, you might be interested in Section 8.
The first thing that must be done is to complete and return an
application to our office. This application would be placed on
our waiting list. Once the application comes to the top of the
waiting list, paperwork would be done to ensure the applicant
qualifies for the program. The prospective unit the applicant
would like to live in would need to be inspected by the Housing
Authority and must meet our standards. Tenants on the Section
8 program pay 30-40% of their adjusted monthly income towards rent
and utilities and the HRA pays the balance.
- Public Housing
The Housing Authority owns one bedroom apartments in five towns and
three bedroom homes in various locations in our service area. These
units are Public Housing units. Once again, an application
must be completed to go onto the waiting list for these specific
units. If there is an opening, applicants will be notified and
approved to move in based on credit, rental references and criminal
background. Tenants pay 30% of their adjusted monthly income
towards rent and utilities. Once bedroom apartments are located in
Badger, Fertile, Fisher, Fosston and Middle River. Three
bedroom homes are located in Climax, Erskine, Fertile, Hallock,
Kennedy, Newfolden, Oslo, Lake Bronson and Lancaster.
